Conducted research, development and testing of a wireless voice and data link between the man cage and the mine head in a vertical mine shaft. This allows the cage to be operated by a person in the cage as well as providing emergency voice communication. The system has an operating range of at least 1.6km underground and was successfully tested at Broken Hill, New South Wales.

- Transmission via 10.5GHz microwave transceivers.
- Antenna design and analysis, and calculation of underground radio transmission paths at 10.5GHz and UHF Frequencies.
