Designed a drive unit for hospital beds to assist staff with moving heavy patients.  This project involved both electronic and mechanical design to produce a unit which was powerful enough to move a bed weighing many hundreds of kilograms, and was simple and easy to couple onto an existing bed frame.


  • Microprocessor controlled soft start motor drive was used for smooth acceleration.
  • Magnetically coupled wall charger to prevent damage if bed was moved without disconnecting it from the wall first.
